Truth Hurts Sometimes.
Lets face it, the Mariners are a bad baseball team this year so far. What other team has half their lineup hitting under .200? Did the Front Office really expect a makeshift lineup to work this year?
We have the fewest home runs in the majors(which is telling), our DH position has a combined age of 75+ years and 1 home run between them. Having someone like Vlad would be great atm. Griffey is a legend and all but honestly, why didnt he just ride off into the sunset after last year? I hope he spares himself the indignity of being released and retires before they cut him. Get in the Hall where you belong, Junior. Figgins has been a dissappointment so far, its 6 weeks into the season, when is he going to figure it out? Honestly, you are a better player than that Chone. I fail to understand how guys whose career averages are .260 and above are still hitting under .200 this far into the season, turn it around..
We have a dam good starting rotation even with the implosions recently of RRS, and when Bedard comes back it would set up like this: Felix the Cat, Cliffy, Erik the Canuck, Dougie F, and J Varg. No major soft spots there in that rotation. 2-3 runs a game of support isnt going to cut it however.
Even when they do get support like tonight, then the pitching tanks. Felix was not sharp tonight and the bullpen blew it again, despite having been good this season. Honestly, weve pretty much hit rock bottom this season.
I went to the game last Saturday vs the Angels and called in advance Rodney walking the bases loaded in the ninth. And we still failed to come through in that one.
I like Wakamatsu but seriously show some more fire. Call out the team or something, talk to Felix again, get thrown out of a game, do something. I will say we are going 1st to 3rd much better this year as well as stealing bases, however the baserunning has been subpar, Johnson getting thrown out tonight at 3rd certainly didnt help. Speaking of him, block the balls Rob, thats your job. Overall our defense has been unacceptable, considering we paid money for it and it is supposedly a strength of our team. Props to Lopez for the good job he has done at 3rd so far though. More hits would be nice though.
I will continue to hold out hopes we can get to about 2 games below .500 by the end of May, when teams will be ready to deal and we could get a power bat like Prince Fielder, or perhaps someone good from Arizona. Just dont give up Ackley to get it, and only one of Fister or Vargas not both. I trust in Jack’s abilities but dont be stupid. If we continue on this path of coming up short then itll be another rebuilding year. And that is all i have to say.
P.S. Before someone accuses me of being a fairweather rooter, Ive been watching since they had Harold Reynolds and Alvin Davis and right when Griffey came up the 1st time. Probably longer than you have so if you dont like me calling it like i see it, thats your problem not mine. Peace.
I also have not figured out how to upload images into the post before, if someone wants to explain that ill post you an internet cookie or something for your trouble. Thanks.
What a game!
Wow….I still cant believe we pulled that one out! I thought for sure once Rivera was in the game was over…then Sweeney decided to hit it to the wall and Ichiro goes yard, that never happens!
Stat from the broadcast: Yankees were 155-1 when leading after the 8th inning the last 2 years
